The Threads That Bind Us
Our Creative Schools journey has brought us down many paths, literally and metaphorically. We journeyed to the top of The Paps following in the footsteps of our Goddess of abundance Danú. We roamed around with our native species of trees and animals, exploring the hedgerows for folklore and song all the while developing our voice as an artist taking influence from those that travelled on a similar route, in particular Alice Maher and Rachel Fallon as contemporary social commentators.
Our paths have crossed with a host of artists who joined us for parts of the journey including filmaker Mieke Van Mechelen, dance artist Eilise Sullivan, printmaker Anne O' Donnell and visual artist Amber Broughton.
Our final journey to celebrate the end of this two-year cycle is a piece of work representing a visual map created by a community contribution. Inspired by 'Rathmore', a circular form, a place of dwelling or worship. A place of magic, mystery and beauty. Together we have created a visual map of our 'Rath'.
By contributing you have documented our shared landscape and visualised the common threads that bind us.
When we set out on this journey, we meandered the road travelled by the generations before us. Our parents and grandparents have carried their traditions, folklore, food and music often signposting that way.
'Sliabh Luachra is not a place,
it has no boundaries
it's a state of mind'
With this in mind our creative journey does not have a set direction or an end........to be continued.
