We invite everyone to think about how we can be inclusive of all members of our school community which includes people of different nationalities, religions, backgrounds and gender identities. We will reflect on this throughout the month of November.
This week November 4th to 8th is the Belong To annual Stand Up Awareness Week and the theme for 2024 is "Standing Up in our Communities."
This is a time for post primary schools, youth services and Youthreach in Ireland to join and take a stand against homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. This dedicated week is an opportunity to create an awareness of and to show support for LGBTQI+ young people in Ireland.
Here in SPSL we are proud to take part in this annual event and aspire to create a safe and respectful environment for all our students each and every day.
In a display of support and awareness the TY class have created a Rainbow Walkway outside the staffroom. This walkway is a sign that LGBTQI+ people are respected and celebrated in our school community.
Our Rainbow Walkway is in keeping with the 2024 theme "Standing up in our Communities". It helps us to develop an understanding of the communities that an individual is connected to and the interconnection between different communities.
On Friday students are encouraged to get creative and to wear colourful accessorises (such as ties, socks, hairbands etc) to accompany their school uniform. Staff will also be taking part. We are donning our colours to show our solidarity and promote inclusivity across our community here in our school.
