Junior Cycle Engineering
Junior Cycle Engineering aims to develop the students’ awareness of engineering processes while developing the necessary subject knowledge with the disciplinary skills to engineer products.
The aim of Junior Cycle Engineering it to enable the student to develop a set of skills and knowledge to design, manufacture and evaluate a product. Students will engage in goal-orientated problem solving tasks which will introduce and make them aware of many engineering processes. Over the three year Junior Cycle they will develop the necessary skills and apply engineering processes to manipulate material to manufacture a product with efficiency, accuracy, precision, and a high-quality finish.
The study of junior cycle Engineering aims to:
• enable students to develop the disciplinary skills and knowledge to engineer an end product
• enable students to engage in goal-oriented problem solving, creating an awareness of engineering processes
• develop the necessary skills and apply engineering processes to manipulate material to manufacture a product with efficiency, accuracy, precision and a high-quality finish
• develop an engineering mindset through the exploration of contemporary engineering developments.
Over the course of Junior Cycle students will develop the necessary skills to fully design, programme and control their own projects.
Students will complete a CBA (Engineering in Action) in 2nd year and a CBA (Research & Development) in 3rd year.
The final examination in 3rd year is broken down as follows:
- Project = 70%
- Written exam = 30%
You will take the Junior Cycle Engineering final examination (2-hour duration) at Common Level.
