The aim of Leaving Certificate Physical Education is to develop the learner's capacity to become an informed, skilled, self-directed and reflective performer in physical education and physical activity in senior cycle and in their future life.
The subject is made up of:
- a final written exam worth 50%
- a physical activity project to be completed under the supervision of the class teacher, worth 20% of the marks,
- a performance assessment to be completed under the supervision of the class teacher, worth 30% of the marks available for this subject.

How is PE Assessed?
The PE Exam consists of three parts; the physical activity project (20%), the performance assessment (30%), and the written exam (50%)

Both ordinary and higher level students sit a written paper in June each year which counts for 50% of their overall grade
